Cupcake generosity

I meant to post this sooner but have been too busy. Sometime ago, my friend was having a rough week so I thought I’d get her some cupcakes to cheer her up. So I got in touch with my regular cupcake supplier and she made me 8 beautiful chocolate cupcakes – because if you are a girl, chocolate solves a lot of your problems! She then refused to accept payment, saying that she just hoped that her cupcakes would cheer up my friend. (Of course, they did!) I thought it was an incredible gesture and so in appreciation of her kindness, I’m putting $50 into the fund. Not that 8 cupcakes would have cost me $50 but you can’t put a price on friendship and warm, fuzzy feelings.

Also special mention to the friend who said he’d see my $50 for another $50, and throw in a couple of thousand if I wanted to expand operations. I’ll take the fifty but will have to politely decline your generous offer. I will give you $10 bucks to go run a little fund-raising project though… *winks*

Who me?

A couple of days into the $10 dollar challenge and I have noticed 2 things:

1. $10 doesn’t buy very much so most ideas revolve around baked goods of some kind. Like how expensive can flour be right?!

2. Consequently, most of the people involved are girls.

I’ve also noticed that most of the emails also start with the phrase “only you are crazy enough to do this kind of thing” or similar.

Crazy? Who me?

the 10 dollar challenge

So I was out for lunch with my colleagues yesterday and guess what I found? A $50 bill just lying on the ground! Of course, I picked it up and managed by the grace of God to resist the urge to buy myself something pretty. The original plan was to donate it to charity but my crazy idealism got the better of me so here is the new plan…

The 10 dollar challenge. I have $50 that pretty much fell from the sky. I will give you $10 and a month to raise funds. You can do whatever you want as long as it is legal. I will let you recover all your costs from whatever revenue you raise. At the end of the month, you give me your profits (which I will expect to be more than $10) and I’ll put it into a fund. The fund will just continue to roll over till such a time when I say stop. The money raised will go to Habitat for Humanity’s building projects in Batam (more about that evil plan later).

You can use it to buy flour to bake cookies to sell. You can buy a bucket and soap and wash cars. You can buy a harmonia and busk. You can buy a ball of wool and knit someone a scarf.
